Technology

Computer Discovery uses an innovative multimedia environment to make subject matter come alive. This course is designed to provide fundamental skills on the operation of microcomputers, including an introduction to computers, keyboarding skills, and file management. Telecommunications, spreadsheets, database, and desktop publishing will make the course exciting, relevant, and challenging.

To take advantage of these learning activities, it is necessary for each student to adhere to certain classroom and lab guidelines. Each student who completes all Computer Discovery objectives will receive one (1) Carnegie Unit that will be used toward high school graduation.

Career Discovery uses an experimental hands-on approach to make learning more fun for students. This course is designed to provide a variety of experiences and activities which promote self-awareness, career exploration, and educational planning related to their future educational and occupational plans. This course is not intended to force a premature career decision; rather it focuses on the awareness of career choices and pathways to achieve individual career goals. As hands-on and computer-based opportunities are provided for students to explore the different clusters, students become aware of career alternatives and how to transfer and use the same skills between career clusters. Field trips and other educational enhancements will be utilized as appropriate. As students become more aware of their own talents, abilities, and interests, they will develop career and educational plans to outline their future endeavors.

Text Book and Supplies:

Career Discovery:

Because it is so important for students to learn to express themselves, a folder with plenty of paper is a major necessity. This folder should be used for Career Discovery only. Pencils are the only writing utensils that will be used. Students may have their own person pencil sharpener as long as it is noiseless.  Writing topics will be centered around various career choices. A class set of textbooks will be used in the classroom as well as other supplementary materials.

Computer Discovery:

Students are expected to have one (1) folder with clasps.  All other supplies will be provided by the teacher.

Attendance and Make-Up Policy:
Attendance in class is imperative.  Students learn by actively participating in class.  If they are not present to do their work, they will be left behind by the next class meeting.  If absences are necessary, students must bring an excuse to the class on the day that he or she returns to class.  The teacher will then schedule a day for students to make up missed assignments.  If the student fails to make up assignments at the appointed time, no other time will be scheduled.  Students will receive a grade of zero for that assignment.
