Science

Science is the study of a combination of the physical, life, and earth sciences, and science skills.  Throughout the teaching process, safety skills, scientific method processes, measuring, use of scientific equipment, current events, environmental issues, technology, and hands-on activities will be emphasized.  Instruction will be in the form of lectures, labs (activities), notes, teacher/student demonstrations, worksheets, overhead transparencies, educational films, posters, and cooperative learning groups.

Textbooks and Materials:
Your homeroom teacher will issue textbooks.  Each student’s parent or guardian will be required to sign a textbook form at the beginning of the year for his/her assigned textbook(s). That student will pay for any new damages.  Note:  You are responsible for your own textbook; no excuses will be accepted!!!

Attendance and Make-up Policy:
Any student who misses a day of school should see the teacher the day he/she returns to school with an excuse for the absence(s).  If the student does not have an excuse, the teacher will decide if the absence was necessary and provide make-up work accordingly.  The student will be allowed to make up the assignments within a two-day period, depending on how many days were missed and how complex the assignment is.  Lab assignments can not be made up!! You must be present in order to participate and receive a grade for lab.

Science Fair:
Each student is required to properly present a science fair project in January.  Students need to choose a topic during the first nine weeks and submit their idea to the teacher in writing.  Each student will receive a major grade based on participation and presentation.  The completed project may be entered in the District Science Fair.  Those students whose projects advance to the district science fair will be expected to present their project to the judges who will ask questions to which they  are to respond.

Teacher/Student Conferences:
If at any time students are having difficulties keeping up with assignments or understanding material, they should inform the teacher as soon as possible to recieve assistance.  Students may visit with the teacher during his/her planning time with permission from their teacher.  Students may also make arrangements to meet with their teachers after school, if necessary.
