Music

The objectives of Music will coincide with national standards for music education.  The standards are singing, playing instruments, composing , arranging, improvising, reading, listening, analyzing and describing, critical evaluation, connections to other objects and art forms, and connections to history and culture.
 
Teaching Format:
Group work, independent work, discussions and hands-on lessons

Beginning Band
is a full year course introducing the fundamentals of performance through the utilization of exercises and other training materials. Development of musical integrity, values, appreciation, habits of involvement, and fundamentals of performance are gained through instruction of all the major band instruments, both wind and percussion. The purpose of this course is to introduce and develop techniques of instrument playing and music reading.

Performances
Students are required to be at all scheduled performances including in class recitals.  Students are required to be in their seat, dressed appropriately, ready to play, with all required materials at the appropriate time.

Textbook and Materials

Music:
Students will need to bring a number 2 pencil, a 70 page spiral composition notebook, and a handheld pencil sharpener to class everyday.

Band:
Textbooks are supplied by the teacher and remain in the classroom.  Students are expected to bring their notebooks, pencils, pens, instrument attachments, and instruments to the classroom daily.  Instrument cases should be clearly labeled and easily identifiable. Students will receive sheet music. It is the responsibility of the student to keep track of all books and sheets of music.  Lost or damaged books or sheet music will incur fines.
