Mathematics

Sixth grade mathematics involves geometric concepts, measurement, number sense, patterns and algebraic thinking, and data analysis and predictions.  It is designed to reach the learning styles of each individual student.

Seventh grade mathematics teaches students the skills necessary to enter Pre-Algebra. Students will gain an understanding of fractions, integers, decimals, percentages, geometric concepts, number operations, and other subjects.  Students will learn several skills by completing hands-on activities.

The Pre-Algebra course will be taught through the I CAN Learn education system.  This means that students will learn math from a computer-based system, complete with exciting video segments.  Using the I CAN Learn system, students will learn from teachers who will teach lessons through the software.  Each lesson consists of a pretest, a warm-up, a lesson presentation, and a quiz.  Once a quiz has been mastered, the student will automatically move to the next lesson.  The units and objectives are sequenced for every student, and a quiz will be given after the third lesson.  The students can and will learn at their own pace; therefore, it is the teacher’s main objective to keep all students on task.

Attendance and Make-up Policy:

Students are expected to be present and on time daily ready to learn with all materials.  Any missed work is the responsibility of the student.  Late students must have a pass signed by an administrator/teacher in order to enter the classroom.  Students are responsible for completing all missed assignments due to absence and tardiness by instructor’s deadline.  Make-up work will be provided on an “as needed basis.”  Due dates/requirements will be provided when make-up work is assigned.

I Can Learn Lab:

Students who fall behind in their lessons are expected to attend after school and Saturday tutorial. Students who are given In-School Detention will fall behind because their assignments, quizzes, and tests are on this computer software only.
