FRENCH I SYLLABUS
Class description: French I introduces students to the most famous of all romance languages. The students will learn basic skills like introducing themselves, expressing their likes and dislikes, telling the days of the week and the months of the year, identifying objects according to color, telling what classes they have and their opinion about them and ordering food in a restaurant.
Teaching formats: The teaching formats will consist of lectures, class discussion, reading, writing, group work and presentations. This is to ensure that the students’ master the skills taught and use them in specific situations in and out of class.
Textbook and Supplies: For this class, the students will need a notebook; red, blue, and black pens; and a bilingual dictionary (English-French). Until further notice, the school would provide textbooks and workbooks.
Major Assignments/Minor Assignments/Grading Criteria: The students will be evaluated through paper and pencil tests (20%), reports (20%), oral presentations (15%), projects (20%), and exams (25%).
Attendance and Make-up Policy: All students are expected to attend class everyday. If a student is going to be absent for any reason, he or she is responsible for all missed assignments and class work which could be obtained from the teacher upon request. Once the missed assignments have been given, the student would need to return them (completed) to the teacher within seventy-two hours. After the deadline, the teacher WILL NOT accept any late assignments.
Strategies for Success:
-Daily attendance is crucial.
-Keep a carefully maintained/organized notebook.
-Take notes daily, as they will be checked regularly.
-Complete do-now as soon as you get to class.
-Do all assignments within the time limit.
-Notify the teacher in case of absence.
-Respect your teacher and your peers.
-Play by the rules (classroom and school expectations).
