Bus Rules
LETTER TO BUS STUDENTS AND PARENTS IN THE INDIANOLA SCHOOL DISTRICT
Dear Parents and Students,
Transportation for students who qualify under the law is a service provided by the local board of education and must be regarded as a privilege. The passengers shall abide by rules and regulations of the State Board of Education and the rules and regulations adopted by the Indianola School District School Board. Students who fail to follow the buses' code of conduct will be denied the privilege of riding school buses in this district.
Loading and Unloading
1. Be at your assigned loading zone on time.
2. Exercise extreme caution in getting to and from your assigned stop.
3. Look in both directions before stepping behind parked cars.
4. Do not play on or near the road while waiting for the bus to arrive.
5. Look in both directions before crossing the road.
6. Never walk on the road when there is a sidewalk or pathway.
7. Always walk on the left side of the road facing oncoming traffic and
step off the road when a vehicle approaches.
8. Use the hand rail while getting on and off the bus.
9. When you must cross the road to enter the bus or after leaving the bus, always
cross in front of the bus and walk approximately 10 feet ahead of the bumper.
10. The driver is authorized to assign seats to passengers.
While on the Bus
1. Do not distract the driver’s attention other than when necessary.
2. Talk in a normal tone and do not shout. Do not talk or make unnecessary
noise when the bus is approaching and/or crossing railroad or highway intersection.
3. Do not bring unauthorized articles on the bus.
4. Be courteous to and follow the driver's instructions.
Don’t Lose Your Riding Privilege
Follow these Rules:
1. Observe same conduct as in the classroom.2. Be courteous and do not use profane language.
3. Do not eat or drink on the bus.
4. Keep the bus clean.
5. Cooperate with the driver.
6. Do not be destructive.
7. Stay in your seat.
8. Keep head, hands and feet inside the bus.
Pupils While Riding A School Bus Shall Not:
1. Smoke or use intoxicants.
2. Fight or tussle.
3. Strike or threaten the driver.
4. Use profane language or make vulgar gestures.
5. Carry deadly weapons.
6. Make excessive noise.
7. Throw objects.
8. Commit any other act of improper conduct.
